When youtube was first rising, one of the primary draws was content creation without the "conservative" constraints from advertisers on TV. The conservative push of the 90's had come to fruition with the Bush presidency, and programs like NYPD blue, which had been pushing the envelop on TV, had a push back effect which made regular channels into milquetoast, terrible pits of bland, safe crap.
However, on HBO and paid channels, and on youtube, there was a daring experiment--no censorship. And it worked, the conservatives came around to money, and many of the chains in those mediums came off. What can come on TV today is insane compared to a decade ago, swears, simulated sex, adult themes.
However, just as we were getting comfortable with the Conservatives having lost (Or given up) the fight for "morality" on TV--a new challenger appeared. The progressive left looking to "think of the women/minorities/special interests" (Instead of the Children, as the conservatives always cried.)....This new morality is wrapped up in progressive language, sure. "Immoral acts of sexuality" are now said to be "the exploitation and objectification of women/minorities"....it's the SAME thing, probably by the same type of people. But now that conservatism is passe for censorship, they've glommed onto this new dogmatic religion, Social Justice.
The internet is the greatest tool for discourse and challenging people, ever. The strides we've made against censorship in the last decade have been amazing. We can't give it up simply because the authoritarians have given up their bibles and national flags for gender studies books and rainbow ones...But that's exactly what is happening. And the very people we've always relied on to fight against censorship and "moral policing" (Skeptical left) seem to be paralyzed. I hope my fellow Liberals can get on the ball, here.

It's not just that, apparently even swearing isn't "advertiser friendly" now, so Youtube can basically take down any channel they want now for "using naughty language".
