Mt. Sac Invitational
Mt. San Antonio College, CA Fri. Oct 21 - Sat. Oct 22, 2022 Deadline: Sun 10/9/22 @ 11:59 PM
Congratulations,
Your Girls Varsity has been accepted into the Mt SAC XC Invitational Girls Division 1 & 2 Individual Sweepstakes Race, which will be run on Saturday morning, Oct. 22, at about 9:00 AM. The specific start time will be published on our web site – RUNMTSAC.COM - on Tuesday, October 18.
All seven of your varsity will race in this Individual Sweeps race. I know some of you are concerned that you have only one or two outstanding runners, and you will have some runners who might be quite a bit back; however, all the teams in this race are in the same situation. Do not worry, all your varsity runners will have someone with whom to race, and they will be racing in the best weather conditions of the meet.
This means all your school’s levels (both boys and girls varsity, JV, soph and frosh) will all compete early Saturday, Oct. 22, when the weather is the coolest between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM.
This also means you may now go back into Athletic.net and if you already have entered JV, soph or frosh levels, you may now add as many runners as you like in the boys and girls JV, soph and frosh divisions.
You have until Friday, October 14 at 11:59 PM PT to enter an unlimited number of athletes in the JV, Soph and Freshman races in both genders.
You may still only enter 7 runners in the Varsity race, and you must still have 7 runners entered in the Varsity race before you may enter any JV runners.
There is no additional charge for adding the additional entries.

Mt. Sac Results Breakdown...looking ahead to League Finals...Let's put it all together!
Great job out there Mustangs at the Mt. Sac Invitational- There were a handful of course PRs as well as overall PRs for those that competed. Shoutout to Mady Nakamura who had a season PR at Mt. Sac and broke 20:00 as well! On the boys side, three F/S guys can say that they had a personal best at Mt. Sac, Kudos 9th grader Rithwik Anchuri, & 10th graders Isaac Ginete & Ethan Hiett for running the fastest times of their lives on a pretty tough course.
9th grade boys 10th out of 16 teams in their heat, including three strong performances from Lang, Glenny and Menchavez!
10th grade boys 4th out of 11 teams. Mistakes were made, the squad ran tough, but a few athletes went out too hard, faded back, finishing outside the top 10 and top 20, respectively. These aggressive early race moves cost us valuable points and when the final scores were tallied, we finished just nine points behind Loyola HS in 3rd place and 12 points behind Peninsula HS. Running without Aiden Gossard who is injured, also hurt us in the points totals. Big Picture: Learn from these mistakes. Racing smarter, continuing to develop the front pack that works together, while also having a secondary pack that continues to develop (Padilla, Padua, Hiett and Duenas) is needed to continue being the best at getting better. Isaac Ginete continues to showcase his strength on the hills, as his patience and strength showcased at both at SCV and Mt. Sac are necessary for us to have success the next two years. Keep up the good work boys.
10th grade girls finished 4th place out of nine teams, and even inserting Jocelyn into the race, we still would have been about 10 points away from 3rd place. Takeaway: We have the building blocks for a strong team the next two years. The interchangeability between the front runners is great. Today was Brooke Torgerson’s first day at leading the squad, finishing closely behind her was Salma Jimenez, getting stronger and more confident each time she races. Jocelyn raced up on the varsity squad and went out hard and mixed it up with the front pack. That took guts, and that was valuable experience to which we can build upon the next few years. Lucy, Cereina, & Adelaide continue to work hard and get stronger as well, had good performances as well. Be the best at getting better girls!
9th grade girls did not place as a team. Only one athlete raced.
JV Boys did not place as a team, only four competed. Junior Austin Hernandez raced for the third time in the month of October, finishing in 7th place overall for the 3rd consecutive time. Austin took 3rd place in SCV Invite, IE Championships, and Mt. Sac! Let’s keep the streak going!
Varsity Boys- Did not place as a team, racing without senior Edgar Haro & Kevin Rodulfo, who were out of town this weekend, 9th grader Luke Lopez was resting a sore Achilles and did not race. Not once have we lined up our best squad this season, as illness, injuries, or misc. events have kept us from putting our best squad on the line. We look to put it all together at League Finals on November 3rd.
Varsity girls- In the individual sweepstakes race, the varsity girls finished in 5th out of 14 teams, a great showing and the first time in which our top five on paper, all competed in the same race on the same day. Out of seven races this year on our schedule, we have been without Mady Nakamura in five of those races, and Riley Gossard two of those races. The senior trio of Galilea Jimenez, Ashlee Randall & Marisol Alvarez has been dominant in keeping us in the mix in almost every race we have run. But ultimately, it takes five to score and do well. So long as we continue to work hard, & stay healthy, we should continue to improve as a unit. It’s good to see the pack moving forward, and at the end of the day, Senior Leya Claudius continues to be the strongest #6 runner on the team, as she has held her spot solidly all season long, but the sophomore girls keep getting closer and this push from #7-#12 on the team is GREAT. Keep working hard ladies, let’s continue to believe and close the gap between yourself and the runner in front of you. The girls team looks to hold on to second place in league, but we need to run smart and know that our competition is with Norco & Centennial. Centennial has two runners under 20:00 at Mt. Sac, and another three under 21:00. If Norco develops a stronger 5th runner, we’re in a much tighter race. Let’s keep progressing, stay healthy, and focus on the things that are in control. Sleep, hydration, focusing on positivity and be the best at getting better!

SCV Invite 10/8/22
This year's meet will be held at College of the Canyons, still only a few minutes from Six Flags Magic Mountain.
26455 Rockwell Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91355
The course map is shown below. We will start in the parking lot near the stadium. Athletes will run up the road behind the stadium until they reach the dirt path. Shortly after the dirt, athletes will follow the trail (making a large 180 degree U), and go left at the first fork (which will be clearly marked on race day). Athletes will make a small loop, then make a big loop up top. After the big loop, athletes will come back down onto the paved road, and finish on the track. While the map shows a little over 3 miles, the actual course will be 3 miles or just under.
Entry fees are $400 max per school.
Example: If you have: Varsity boys team ($100), JV Boys team ($100), Varsity Girls team ($100) = $300 total
School Checks, Personal Checks, or Cash will be acceptable. Please bring fees to the meet and turn in when you receive your packet. If you mail checks for team entries, please mail them by September 23, 2022. Make checks for team entries payable to: Canyon High School ASB.
You can purchase Magic Mt. Tickets online. It is a 5 minute drive to Magic Mountain from COC. (We will not be selling tickets unless Six Flags gives us a much better group price).
First race start Time will be 8:00 A.M.
Awards: Champion Tee Shirts to 7 runners on winning teams.
Medals to top 30 ind. in each race.
Place: College of the Canyons (Santa Clarita): an uphill first half mile, some rolling hills in the back, and a downhill last half mile. The first and last half mile are on asphalt, and the rest of the course is dirt. Teams can camp out next to the stadium (no popups allowed in the stadium).
Directions: Central Park (26455 Rockwell Canyon).
Coming from Los Angeles: Take the 5 north. Exit at Valencia Blvd and turn right. Then take an almost immediate right into the parking lot after the stadium.

F/S boys were 5th out of 15 scoring teams while being down one scorer who did not compete. Led by Isaac Ginette’s 10th place finish. http://www.milesplit.live/meets/504321/team-scores/3_M_1
F/S & JV Girls- 5th place out of 19 scoring teams, led by sophomore Joceyln Izarraraz’s 12th place finish. http://www.milesplit.live/meets/504321/team-scores/7_F_2
JV Boys didn’t field a full scoring team but were led by Jr. Austin Hernandez’s 7th place finish out of 160 competitors. http://www.milesplit.live/meets/504321/events/3/F/M
Varsity Boys were led by Senior Jude Enriquez and his 4th place individual finish. Varsity Boys finished 3rd place on the day, despite being down one significant scorer who very well could have brought us up enough points to snag 2nd place from Westlake HS. What if??? Also, 9th grader Luke Lopez 15th place in the varsity boys race, was the fastest 9th grader on the course, running 16:55! Would have won the FS Boys race by 33 seconds! http://www.milesplit.live/meets/504321/team-scores/1_M_5
Varsity Girls finished 6th place in the team standings, out of over 20+ teams. This, despite missing two key scorers, was a great showing for the Mustang ladies. Led by Senior Galilea Jimenez’s individual 6th place finish, Sr. Ashlee Randall was also seen moving up throughout the race to finish 15th overall! http://www.milesplit.live/meets/504321/team-scores/1_F_4

Riverside Showcase (9/3/22) 2.25 mi
Overall, it was a great season opener for the RooseyXC team. Warm temperatures and dusty conditions, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger!
Roosevelt Jr/Sr.Girls took home the victory, and the Roosevelt Boys Fr/So team took home the team titles.
Good race experience on our home course for Big VIII League Preview and League Finals.
Seniors Galilea Jimenez (3rd individually) and Jude Enriquez (6th individually) posted the team’s top individuals for the day.
Boys F/S team- Power of the pack does it! MLK has two stud 9th grade boys that went 1-2 in the race, but four 10th graders from Roosevelt worked together to secure some solid points (5-8-9-16) + the strongest 5th man in the race went to 9th grader Austin Lang in 21st place, edging out MLK HS by a single point! 50 to 51, with the lowest score winning.
Last year, the freshman boys got destroyed at most 9th grade competitions, but a year stronger, and our first race of the season, our stronger sophomores were ready and in shape to do damage on the course. Keep up the good work!
Still a number of individual athletes missing from results due to sickness or injuries. Things are looking up once we plug in some of the studs that were on the sideline. Be the Best at Getting Better RooseyXC!
